PUNE NEWS EXPRESS :
In a tragic turn of events late on Saturday night, a young man (Anis Avdhiya) and a young woman (Ashwini Costa) lost their lives in a freak accident. Vedant Aggarwal (17 years of age) of R.Brahma Sun City was involved in a collision with a motorcycle and other vehicles while driving a Porsche car. The accident occurred in Kalyani nagar around 3:15 am, as the young woman and her friends were leaving the Ballr pub after a party. Despite the Police Commissioner’s order, some pubs in the city were seen open till late into the night. Shocking footage captured the aftermath of the accident, showing the young woman lying on the road.
The excessive number of pubs and restaurants serving alcohol until late at night has turned Kalyani Nagar into a hotspot for noise and drunken disturbances. Despite our continuous complaints for the past two years, drunken brawls, misbehavior, and littered streets with alcohol bottles persist. This endangers women’s safety and increases the risk of drunk driving accidents. We’ve engaged with the police, PMC, and excise department, and sought support from our elected representatives. It’s time for the authorities to act, revoke these licenses, and enforce an 11 PM deadline to protect our community and prevent further tragedies. The timings were extended to 1:30am after the pandemic situation to boost financial impacts however now it should be reconsidered to safeguard residents.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the enforcement of curfew orders, particularly in areas where pubs continue to operate beyond permissible hours. Witnesses described the horrifying scene as emergency responders rushed to the accident site, but sadly, it was too late to save the lives of the two victims. As investigations into the cause of the accident unfold, authorities are facing scrutiny over the effectiveness of curfew enforcement measures and the safety of late-night revelers on the city’s roads. Moreover many pubs are serving alcohol to underage and are spoiling the new generation.
Demands of residents:
1)No loud music after 10pm and soundproofing should be mandatory for all pubs/ restrobars.
2)No illegal late night operations after 1.30am and repeated offenders’ licences should be cancelled immediately.
3)No objection certificate should be compulsory from the residents.
4)Pubs and restaurants should be responsible for making sure customers leave the premises quietly and don’t hang around outside their establishments.
5)All pubs/ restrobars and commercial spaces should have their own parking space.
6)Pubs closure time must be changed to 11am instead of 1.30 am.
